Ontario RAT 1 Review 2014/10/20
In 2002 Randall's Adventure & Training (RAT) entered into an
exclusive collaboration with Ontario Knife Co to supply a proven set
of outdoor knife designs. Read our full review and field test of
the Ontario RAT 1.
Introduction
The Ontario RAT 1 features a 4-way clip position, heavy- duty open post
construction, razor-sharp AUS-8 blade, full flat grind, reversible thumb
stud, precision pivot screw, lanyard hole and ergonomic handles. It is
available with a OD green, coyote brown, desert tan or black G10 handle
and with a black or satin, plain or part-serrated blade. I picked the
fine edge.
The Ontario Rat 1 comes in a variety of
styles with different handle colours and blade coatings. The blade uses
AUS-8 which I can sum up as a ‘bang for your buck’ steel. Above all I
have no complaints but it cannot take a beating without showing signs of
wear. I did notice slight edge rolling too.
The scales are made from a nylon resin and are tough with a nice texture
in the hand. There are numerous knives on the market that come in
this form factor. High end brands like SpyderCo attaching high end
prices too! The Ontario RAT 1 is great if you are on a budget.
