This warm turmeric breakfast beverage certainly awakens the body and
mind like no other. With cinnamon stick, turmeric powder, cayenne
pepper and freshly ground black pepper all lightly boiled together for
a short while.
The Recipe
Place a large pan on a low heat and fill it with one and a half
mugs of filtered water per person. Add a cinnamon stick.
Whilst the water is turning a slight brown colour you can prepare
the black pepper. Take a pestle and mortar and grind up a tablespoon
of black pepper corns into a fine powder.
When the water is brownish you can increase the heat to reach a
boil.
As soon as the water starts to boil add a tablespoon of turmeric
and watch the yellow foam suddenly burst forth. Add the black pepper
immediately to this froth and stir. Turn the heat right down.
Add a good chunk or two of fresh peeled ginger (use a back of a
spoon to scrape the delicate skin off) to the pestle and mortar.
Mash it hard and add this all to the pan.
Add some cayenne pepper, I normally add a teaspoon or so.
Keep it all on the low flame for 5 mins for a good infusion.
Strain the mixture with a fine sieve and let it cool slightly.
Add a tablespoon of local raw honey, stir it well.
Pour into a nice glass or mug and add a tablespoon of apple cider
vinegar (live 'with the mother') and finally the juice from a whole
lemon.
Try to rinse your mouth out with fresh water after due to the vinegar
content of this turmeric beverage. Part of my Survival in Lockdown
article.
